Overall review

Kazunori Nakano, Ph.D. (Committee Chairperson, Professor, College of Engineering, Nihon University, Environmental Ecology Engineering)

The 2025 JTA Toilet Awards received a total of 38 submissions in four categories. This is a highest number of submissions ever. The quality of the works has also been advancing, particularly in Production Category with 12 submissions, and Social Activities category with 14 submissions. This made us quite difficult to select the award winners.

In the past, there were many cases where the categories they were submitted to were inappropriate from the judging point of view and to give it a low score eventually. Therefore, in 2025, we made open the judging evaluation criteria for each category in order to eliminate such discrepancies in the categories to be submitted. However, there were still cases where it seemed that a work would receive a higher evaluation to be submitted to a much proper category. Hence the committee will continue making improvements to reduce such discrepancies.

In 17th JTA Toilet Award in 2025, four works were conferred JTA Toilet Award, nine were Incentive Award, one was Future Thinking Award and three were General Participant Voting Award. Even the works that were not selected this time had their outstanding points. It is unfortunate that we are only able to award a limited number of awards. It is ideal that this award has become a catalyst that publicizes the excellent works and activities in various toilet related fields, and that it has become to be interested in toilets for many people.

We look forward to this award again next year, and let me conclude my overall comments.

I appreciate everyone who applied or supported with the judging and voting.

Sincerely
