1. Goal
The “Good Toilet Commendation”, which was launched in 2009, is renamed “JTA Toilet Award” from 2023 after reviewing the criteria for the selection. This award is given to those who have implemented or proposed outstanding activities with the goal of creating a toilet environment where “Everyone can use the toilet comfortably anytime, anywhere” and thereby pursuing a sustainable society. We recommend works that serve as a model for a comfortable toilet environment.
2. Award Categories
There are following 4 categories on works and activities related with the toilets.
a) Production Category:
The Architectural design and the Product design of the Equipment, Materials, and related Facilities, etc.
b) Writing / Research Category:
Authored books, Video works, Research on the Toilet Culture, Research papers, Technology development, etc.
c) Maintenance / Management / Operation Category:
Professional Maintenance & Administration, Cleaning, Operation, etc.
d) Social Activity Category:
Holding events, Planning, Promotion of Toilets and Enlightenment activities, Educational activities, Comprehensive
activities on the Toilets, Health, Non-profit activities at the Disaster, Volunteers, and Civic activities, etc.
* The condition of the application,
In the category A, the work must have been in use for at least six months and within three years of the completion of the construction.
In the categories from B to D, the projects that have been active for more than three years can also be applied.
However, works that have won the “Good Toilet Commendation” by JTA in the past are excluded.
In addition, works that have been presented or awarded by the other organizations can also be applied.
3. Qualifications to Apply
We will accept a wide range of applications regardless of age or non-JTA membership. English written applications from overseas are also acceptable. The application fee is free of charge.
4. Selection Method and Period
The selection will be conducted in following two types;
4.1 The selection by the judging committee
“JTA Toilet Award” is selected for each category. There may also be “JTA Toilet Grand Prix Award” for best one.
In addition, there are also additional awards such as the “Incentive Award” and the “Student Award.”
The selection results will be announced at the 40th National Toilet Symposium (venue: Tokyo Big Sight Toilet
Industry Exhibition) on 20th November, 2024.
4.2 The selection by the visitors to National Toilet Symposium and Toilet Industry Exhibition
There will also be a “Public Voting Award” based on the votes of visitors at the 40th National Toilet Symposium at
Tokyo Big Sight to be held on 20th November and the Toilet Industry Exhibition from 20th to 22th November.
The selection results will be announced on Japan Toilet Association website after the Symposium.

5.2 Submission of the application form
Please submit; a) The filled application form and A4 size panel, and b) A1 size panel for display at National Toilet Symposium venue in Tokyo Big Sight.
Deadline: 4th October, Friday, 2024.
a) The filled application form with A4 size sheet
This is used not only for the summary booklet of National Toilet Symposium but also for the selection material.
The form explaining the work and activities shall be submitted as MS Word or Power Point on A4 size sheet with colour.
The translation from English to Japanese can be carried out by JTA on behalf.
This is to be published in monochrome colour in the summary booklet of the Symposium.
Please leave 1 cm margins on the top, bottom, left, and right, and specify the title of the submitted work or application and the name of the applicant.
Examples:
For the Production category … photos, floor plans, outlines, features, etc.
For the Maintenance/ Management/ Operation Category… photos, overview, features, etc.
b) A1 size panel
This is used for the display at National Toilet Symposium venue in Tokyo Big Sight. This must be basically an expansion of A4 size panel above a) and shall be submitted as PDF data on A1 size sheet with colour.
* All submissions will be exhibited at National Toilet Symposium venue and the awarded ones are posted on the Japan Toilet Association website.
* It can be possible to submit in English, and the translation of the application form into Japanese will be supported by the committee.
* Last year’s awards are introduced in JTA website with the referee comments in English and the panels in Japanese for the reference.

* Last year’s winners’ works will be presented virtually at Japan Toilet Association (JTA) Seminar Series; “Let us know more about our Toilet Story” event, which will be held from August to October 2024.

The Japan Toilet Association (JTA) was established as a voluntary organization in 1985 with the goals of (1) Identify a toilet culture, (2) Develop a comfortable toilet environment, and (3) Contribute to the improvement of social issues related to toilets, and became a general incorporated association in 2017. We will keep on continuing our activities and efforts.
10th November of every year in Japan is assigned as a “Good Toilet Day”, and National Toilet Symposium is usually held in many places in Japan as one of the main events of JTA, and this year is the 40th symposium.
